The bout we currently have is in Australia as unbeaten Australia Craig Vitale (5-0, 3) takes on the very limited Junior Maletino Iakopo (1-12-2). Although Iakopo's sole victory was relatively recently it's a pointless match up and Vitale should easily come out on top.
The Heavyweight action this coming Friday is seemingly very disappointing with just a single bout, unfortunately even that is disappointing.

After yesterday's double in New Zealand we return to the Oceanic region for more Heavyweight action.
In what seems to be the only scheduled Heavyweight bout of the day the unbeaten Craig Vitale (4-0, 2) takes on KO or be KO'd Joe Lloyd (3-5, 3), a man who has been stopped in 4 of his 5 losses. Vitale has been a busy man this year with 4 fights in the space of around 5 months and if he gets past Lloyd here the likeliness is that he'll return for another fight in November and possibly another in December. Incidentally this will be the second meeting between the two men with Vitale making his debut against Lloyd, interesting Vitale's victory over Lloyd is the only decision loss on Lloyd's record. Unless Lloyd can land something big on Vitale we really can't see anything but a victory for the unbeaten man here. After the past few weekends of busy Heavyweight action it's nice to have a quieter, though not silent, weekend this week.
The action kicks off in Victoria, Australia as fans get a Heavyweight double header. In the first of those bouts fans will get to see Craig Vitale (3-0, 1) attempt to score his 4th straight victory as he faces the debuting Joe Muir (0-0). Vitale has only been a professional for around 3 months but has already been impressive dropping just 2 of 9 rounds. The second bout in Victoria sees Joel Shackleton (4-0, 4) face Hunter Sam (6-1-2, 3) in a battle for the Victoria State Heavyweight title. Although Shackleton has an impressive looking record his opponents to date have been poor with a combined record of 13-45-4 and none of them have had a winning record. Sam hasn't fought significantly better opponents though his opponents have been there to win with 6 opponents having winning records. As well as the 2 bouts in Victoria there is also a couple of bouts in Pennsylvania, USA as Eric Newell (5-2-1, 3) takes on Moses Marshall (0-1-1) and the experienced Jason Gavern (21-15-4, 10) faces Robert Dunton (9-8-1, 6). Unfortunately neither of these bouts really hold any kind of major interest with fans on a world stage or even the case of any of the men really being "promising" future contenders. Another Friday and another busy start to the weekend in terms of Heavyweight boxing. Sure the "big fight" of the weekend is tomorrow and not today but still there is more than just a little bit of action today.
With 4 Heavyweight contests taking place on the untelevised portion of the ESPN2 "Friday Night Fights" card is seems a sensible idea to start there, especially considering there are 3 really good fights on there. Arguably the most interesting of those 4 bouts sees the unbeaten American Alexis Santos (9-0, 8) looking for his biggest win so far as he takes on the experienced Marlon Hayes (23-11, 11). This bout is scheduled for 6 rounds but with Santos having scored 5 opening round victories there is every chance Hayes will be taken out inside the distance. The unbeaten Charles Martin (8-0-1, 7) is also in action on that card as he takes on Aaron Kinch (5-1-1, 1). This is another interesting bout though not one that sets our pulses racing. Staying on the theme of unbeaten fighters there will also be action of Julian Pollard (2-0, 2) though he's facing a yet to be named opponent. The remaining Heavyweight bout on the card sees Jonathan Hamm (7-1, 5) taking on Daniel Martz (8-1-1, 6). This is by far the most evenly matched of the 4 bouts and although neither man is expected to go on to massive things it should be a thoroughly entertaining from start to end. Staying in the US we also expect to see Ecuadorian Olympian Ytalo Perea (3-0, 2) in action though we're unaware of who he'll be fighting at the moment. In Argentina the infamous Matias Ariel Vidondo (14-1-1, 13) takes on Alfredo Brigido Ruiz Diaz (7-5-1, 2). Vidondo is best known for his bout with Brazil's Irineu Beato Costa Junior, a bout where both men were horribly out of shape before Vidondo effectively collapsed of exhaustion, unfortunately Vidondo doesn't appear to have lost any weight since then. In Australia we get the first Heavyweight contest of the day as Michael Cornelius (2-0, 1) takes on Craig Vitale (2-0, 1). This match up is certainly an interesting one and a bit of a 50-50 contest though as is often the case in Australia, neither man will be likely to really make a mark on the world stage. A very busy weekend in the world of Heavyweight boxing kicks off on Friday with bouts take place around the world.
The first bout of the day is scheduled to take place in Victoria, Australia as the unbeaten Craig Vitale (1-0) takes on debutant Johnny Kavana (0-0). Thiw will be Vitale's second fight in around 5 weeks, if he wins it's expected he'll return to the ring early next month. In Poland we have 3 Heavyweight bouts at the Hala Lodowa MOSiR in Oswiecim. The highest profile of those 3 bouts in Poland sees Marcin Najman (13-4, 9), a former Polish Heavyweight title challenger, ending a 4 and a half year break from the ring to take on Martin Pacas (0-0). Najman will be the favourite but questions about his long lay off will hang over his head until the fight is over. In a battle of unbeaten fighters Kamil Zielinski (0-0-1) faces Hungarian visitor Oliver Nagy (2-0). Although Nagy is unbeaten in 2 bouts both of those have been against the winless Zoltan Janos Horvath (currently 0-15) with the first victory by just a point. The remaining bout in Poland sees newcomer Jacek Chruslicki (1-0) taking on debutant Piotr Barczyk (0-0). At the weigh in Barczyk was 35lbs heavier than Chruslicki. In Buenos Aires on the west coast of Argentina, Maximiliano Alejandro Sosa (7-1, 3) returns to the ring for the first time in over a year to take on experienced Emilio Ezequiel Zarate (16-11-3, 8). This will be Sosa's first fight since suffering a stoppage loss to Alejandro Emilio Valori in March 2012 and appears to be a clear case of rebuilding his confidence against a clear soft touch. On the opposite side of the country in Mendoza, Nelson Dario Dominguez (14-3-1, 7) fights Fabian Andres Toleda (2-4). Dominguez should go in to this bout as the huge favourite though he has suffered stoppages defeats in 3 of his last 6 bouts, including his 2 most recent fights. It's another confidence builder though more than anything it's a chance to see just ho shot Dominguez's confidence really is. The remaining 2 bouts of the day that we have full details of are both take place at the McGowan Hall - Knights of Columbus in Indianapolis. In what appears to be a bit of a mismatch Shaun Seymore (2-0 2) takes on Brandon Bennett (0-5). The unbeaten Seymore has just fought for 96 seconds as a professional thanks to a pair of opening round stoppages, Bennett, without a win in 5 bouts has incidentally been stopped in the opening round of his last 4 (and stopped in all 5 of his losses). It's fair to say that this might be a case of "blink and you may miss the ending". The other bout on the card looks on paper to be much more even as Scott Conner (11-4, 8) faces Efren Brown (10-8-1, 6). Sadly paper can be deceiving and this will actually be Brown's first fight in over 20 years! Brown last fought way back in 1991 as a much smaller fighter and actually "ended" his career on the back of 3 successive stoppages, so God only knows what he's doing back in the ring in 2013 as a Heavyweight. Whilst Brown's return to the ring is bizarre it's also worth noting that Conner himself is returning after a long absence having last fought in 2004. Like Brown Conner comes in to this bout on the back of successive losses and leaves us wondering what on earth is going on. In all honesty we are are actually hoping that the Conner v Brown bout will be scrapped at the 11th hour otherwise we'll be left wondering what the commission was doing allowing this to go on. |
